Bafana Bafana and Al Ahly forward Percy Tau has opened up about his future and explained his decision to leave England and return to Africa.

The 29-year-old has had a highly successful time at the Egyptian giants, having won six trophies which includes the Egyptian Premier League title, three Egyptian Super Cups, one Egypt Cup, the Caf Champions League and Caf Super Cup title.

Prior to his move back to Africa, Tau spent time in the Premier League at Brighton & Hove Albion but only managed to feature six times while also spending time on loan at Royale Union Saint Gilloise and RSC Anderlecht.

Despite speculation surrounding his future, Tau insists that he is still contracted to Ahly and has stressed the importance of getting regular game time under his belt.

“Look, I still have a contract with Alhy that runs until 2025,” Tau told Mozzart Sport.

“We won five trophies last season, and so this season we’re also going to try to do the same. I’m happy to be competing in these major tournaments. Ahly is a big club and they always try to win.

“In Al Ahly, whatever you have achieved, when it comes to the following season, it does not count, and you will have to start again.

“The only thing that I wanted so much was to play football; I could not stand sitting on the bench and waiting irrespective of the continent that I was on. All I wanted was to play and to be happy to be on the pitch again.”
