Etiosa Ighodaro bagged a brace to help SuperSport United book their place in the Caf Confederation Cup group stages following a 3-0 victory over Gaborone United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Etiosa Ighodaro scored twice in the second half, and Bradley Grobler scored as a substitute to give SuperSport an easy win in the second leg in Polokwane, which is in the north of South Africa.

After a 1-1 draw in Botswana two weeks ago, where the first leg was played, the South Africans won the match 4-1 on aggregate.

United coach Gavin Hunt put a lot of his best players on the bench because their domestic league schedule has them travelling a lot. They played three days ago and have another away game on Wednesday.

If SuperSport wins, they will move on to the 16-team group stage, which starts on November 26 and has a prize pool of at least $400,000 (€380,000).

SuperSport has often been in the running for the African version of the UEFA Europa League. In 2017, they finished second to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Last season, USM Alger became the first Algerian team to win the second-tier competition. On Sunday, they will host FUS Rabat in a match that is very close.

After surprising Egypt’s Al Ahly in the CAF Super Cup, USM drew 1-1 with 2010 Confederation Cup winners FUS on the road.
