Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes seasoned winger Daine Klate brought ‘luck and passion’ to the Clever Boys this season.
The 31-year-old winger was named Wits’ Player of the Year last week after scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists in his first season with the Clever Boys.
‘I am enjoying my football again, the environment is amazing and supportive,’ Josephs told the Bidvest Wits website.
‘There are no unnecessary pressures here. As soon as I felt at home, I told Daine, “you have to make a move to Bidvest Wits”.’
The former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper went on to say that one of the objectives at the club is to achieve things and enjoy their football.
‘Daine scored 12 goals and 15 assists this season. It is easy for players to crack under pressure and not perform but we do not have that here. Of course we want to achieve things here at Bidvest Wits, but we also want to enjoy it by enjoying our football. I definitely think that is the objective here at the club,’ the goalkeeper added.
Josephs expresses his surprise that the Absa Premiership veteran has still not be selected for the South African national squad.
‘Daine Klate is a seasoned pro, and that he has not been selected for the national team still surprises me. He is an exceptional football player,’ Josephs said.
The former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper went on to praise the winger, mentioning that he has brought good luck to the club and he insisted that Klate know exactly what is needed for the team to succeed.
‘Daine’s an inspiration to me because he brings luck and passion to the squad. He did the same for Orlando Pirates and Supersport United where he contributed to many trophy wins. He definitely has an aura around him.’
‘As one of the older more experienced players in the club, he knows what’s needed to help the team succeed. Bidvest Wits definitely blossomed this season thanks to Daine,’ he concluded.
This season Josephs and Klate has help Bidvest Wits to a second place finish in the Absa Premiership ending the season with 57 point, 14 points behind PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
