Cape Town Spurs interim coach Sean Connor believes that 17-year-old Luke Baartman is “more than capable of playing at this level” following his cameo against Orlando Pirates.
The 17-year-old came on as a substitute in the 49th minute to replace Ashley Cupido in Spurs’ 2-1 victory over the Buccaneers at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Baartman has already featured once before for the Urban Warriors when he played the final 11 minutes in their defeat to Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup.
Connor believes that the young winger has great potential but insists he has to keep working hard to develop his game.
“Part of the reason I came here is to try to restructure, bring the club back to it’s core value that it has and that’s about youth development, promising young players, Connor told SuperSport TV after the game.
“One of the things I did was bring Luke (Baartman) into the squad and I think tonight and the 30 minutes he showed that he’s more than capable of playing at this level.
“I don’t want to get too exuberant about him, great potential and has great future, as long as he keeps on working as hard as he can, as he’s doing at the moment.
