West London rivals Chelsea and Fulham booked their places in the semifinals of the English League Cup with penalty shoot-out wins, while second tier Middlesborough are also through to the last four.
Hoping to join them on Wednesday night are either Liverpool or West Ham, who play in the last of the quarterfinal games.
Chelsea looked to be heading out as they trailed to a Callum Wilson goal for Newcastle United early on, but following a Kieran Trippier error, Mykhailo Mudryk equalised for The Blues in the 9nd minute.
That took the tie to penalties and when Trippier fired wide, Chelsea took the shoot-out 4-2.
Fulham took the lead at Everton via a Michael Keane own goal towards the end of the first half, but when Beto equalised for The Toffees, the game at Goodison Park also went to penalties.
Amadou Onana had the chance to win it for Everton but his spot-kick was poor, and Fulham outlasted their opponents to claim the shootout 7-6.
Middlesborough were favourites to beat third-tier Port Vale and so it proved as they claimed a 3-0 success.
