Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits Stellenbosch FC were “very difficult” to play against and he can see why they went 25 games unbeaten.

The Brazilians ended Stellies’ unbeaten run across all competitions after securing a 2-1 victory at the Danie Craven Stadium in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

Sundowns are now set to take on defending champions Orlando Pirates in the final which will be played at the Mbombela Stadium on June 1.

Mokwena praised is players mentality in the game and reserved special praise for Thembinkosi Lorch after he scored the winning goal to get them in the final.

“Yeah, a difficult game, of course against a difficult team and you can see why they went 25 games unbeaten but I thought we were very good today, tactically, I think we got the tactics spot on and I think compliments to these players. We got through today because of the mentality,” Mokwena told on SuperSport TV after the game.

“Unfortunately, we had to make an early sub with (Divine) Lunga but Thapelo (Morena) was amazing when he came on.

“Lorch was amazing when he came on, so big compliments to the football club, congratulations to Sundowns for yet another final this season. We keep going now, we try to win the next one.”
