Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro admits it was not their best performance, but it was good enough for them to walk away with all three points.
The Buccaneers secured their seventh straight victory after a brace from Tshegofatso Mabasa earned them a 2-0 win over Chippa United.
The win sees Pirates remain in third place in the DStv Premiership standings with 49 points from 27 games, while Chippa are sitting in 11th place with 33 points from 27 matches.
Riveiro was pleased with his side’s overall performance to continue their winning run and walk away with maximum points.
“The three points (was the highlight), we’re going through a tight schedule, I think today it takes time to find rhythm in the first half,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the game.
“Usually in the last few games a little bit slow, in the end we find space in our right hand side, with many penetrations from Thabiso, the goal could have come early but in the end we managed to open the scoring, which is important not going to half-time 0-0.
“I think that was key in the game, otherwise if it takes a little bit long maybe you don’t know but not our best performance but good enough to collect the three points to make sure that we continue with possibilities to achieve the objective that we’re looking for right now. So happy with the boys, excellent numbers and results for us, so we move.
“It’s good that we also responded well in our right hand side, we didn’t really use Rele (Mofokeng) more in the first half, more in the second one.
“Anyway, the team was balanced, under control, we didn’t suffer transitions which is important, we did a fantastic job in set-pieces, especially in defence against a team in long throw ins, inn corner kicks, overall a professional performance. I think three points we go to the next,” he concluded.
