Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League standings and kept their title hopes alive following their 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
Despite putting on a lacklustre performance against a badly injured United team, the Gunners managed to achieve the victory, which moves them one point clear of Manchester City despite having played one extra game.
After 20 minutes, Leandro Trossard scored as struggling veteran Casemiro’s careless play allowed Kai Havertz to get clear and the Belgian tapped in his cross at the near post.
Although United put out a lot of effort, their lack of quality was evident as they never put Arsenal custodian David Raya to the test, severely diminishing their chances of playing in Europe the next season.
Arsenal now has to hope that its rivals from North London, Tottenham Hotspur, do them a favour by defeating Manchester City at home on Tuesday.
Next Sunday, the Gunners play their season-ending match at home against Everton, while City plays at home against West Ham.
