Bayern Munich are in advanced talks with Burnley over the appointment of Vincent Kompany to succeed Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach.

The Belgian and Bayern have reached a principle deal, according to German tabloid Bild and network Sky as well as the English publication The Guardian.

The German team is therefore negotiating a compensation settlement for Burnley, where Kompany’s contract is still valid for four years.

Just one season in the English top division, Burnley was demoted from the Premier League.

In February, Bayern and Tuchel decided to split ways after Bayer Leverkusen, the eventual champions, pulled ahead of them.

Of the several candidates connected to Bayern, Kompany is the most recent.

Bayern was apparently turned down by Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick.

Then Bayern tried to hang onto Tuchel, who guided them to a Champions League semi-final defeat against Real Madrid. But Tuchel claimed the parties “could not reach an agreement” on his remaining in the Bavarian capital.

Kompany was a player in the Bundesliga with Hamburg before moving to Manchester City.

Burnley won the second division title the next season after he took over as manager, and he led them to the Premier League.

But Kompany was unable to keep Burnley in the top flight, and the squad was demoted to 19th place in the 20-team league.
