Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the appointment of Romain Folz as the club’s new assistant coach.
The 34-year-old is now added to the technical department alongside the likes of Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene.
The Frenchmen joins the club after working as a Performance Manager for world governing body FIFA.
Folz brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached West Virginia, Bechem United, Ashanti Gold, Township Rollers, Marumo Gallants FC, AmaZulu and Horoya AC.
He was also assistant coach at Golden Eagles, Ugandan national team, Pyramids FC, Chamois Niort and the Mauritania national team.
Mamelodi Sundowns have since released the following statement on the matter, which reads:
Mamelodi Sundowns has appointed Romain Folz as an Assistant Coach in the first team and joins Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene in the Technical Department.
Romain joins the 2023/24 PSL Champions from FIFA’s High-Performance Department where he worked on the development of football. Folz who holds a UEFA Pro License has previously worked in South Africa and across Africa in Guinea, Botswana, and Ghana.
Mamelodi Sundowns players and Technical Team have warmly received Romain into the camp in Austria where they are on a pre season camp.
The Club will play more competitive matches in the next few days as part of the ongoing pre season preparations.
