SuperSport United assistant coach Andre Arendse has explained what led to head coach Gavin Hunt’s red card.

Matsatsantsa were eliminated from the MTN8 quarter-finals following their 3-1 defeat against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

However, Hunt was shown his marching orders in extra-time after protesting Evidence Makgopa’s, feeling it was a potential offside goal.

Arendse has since revealed that the entire game was based on emotion, especially playing at such a high level.

“The entire game was based on emotions, that’s what happens when you play a game like this at such a high level, at such high stakes,” Arendse told SuperSport TV.

“It was a decision that led to all these emotions. From our angle, it looked like it was clear daylight between a player and an offside call. We were pretty sure.

“And in fairness to the officials and if he wasn’t offside, we’ll certainly apologise for it but we thought it was a clear offside and that’s [the reason] for the emotions and one thing led to another.”
