The DHL Stormers have confirmed that loose forward Dave Ewers has signed a short-term contract with the club ahead of the 2024–25 season.
Before joining Ulster last season, the strong back-rower—who can play both blindside flank and No. 8—earned over 200 caps for the English team Exeter Chiefs.
Ewers adds a tough edge to both offence and defence. He was a standout member of the Exeter squad that won the Premiership and the Investec Champions Cup in 2020.
In addition to his extensive expertise, Ewers will provide a lot of physicality, according to John Dobson, Director of Rugby for the DHL Stormers.
“Given that we are missing some important loose forwards due to injuries, Dave matches the profile of what we were seeking for in the short term.
“He has proven himself as a top player with the experience of what it takes to mix it with the best in Europe, so we are looking forward to seeing the impact he will have within our system,” Ewers told the club’s official website.
“I am originally from Zimbabwe, so to be back down south is very exciting and I am ready to get stuck in for the DHL Stormers.
“There are some incredible players in this squad and hopefully I can add something extra as we gear up for an exciting season.”
