Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in signing Asanele Velebayi.
The issue has generated a great deal of discussion in the media, and there have been several reports that the player may be sold to the Soweto team.
After 11 years with the Urban Warriors, Velebayi has established himself as one of the league’s most sought-after players because to his stellar play for the team in the South African premier league.
Efstathiou attested to the talks between the teams. He said that the player’s requests for assistance were not fulfilled by the Chiefs.
“Yes (Chiefs made an approach to buy Velebayi),” Efstathiou said speaking to Metro FM’s Sports Night Live With Andile Ncube.
“We priced him fairly. They asked us what are we looking for and we told them and like any other party do, they came back with (a counteroffer) and you either agreed or disagreed. That’s where we are.
“Since we declined the offer we have heard nothing back, so I can’t say it’s ongoing, no. They know what we asked for. I would say the (offer) wasn’t close to what we were asking.”
