Safa have confirmed that the extent of Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo Sithole’s injury will be determined once they return to South Africa.

The 25-year-old suffered an injury in the 72nd minute of the match and was subsequently replaced by Thalente Mbatha.

Mbatha went on to score the winning goal as Bafana secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Sudan at the Juba Stadium on Tuesday.

However, Safa have since confirmed that his injury will be examined once they return to South Africa on Wednesday

Safa released the following statement on the extent of Sphephelo Sithole’s injury:

The extent of Sphephelo Sithole’s injury will be determined upon landing in Johannesburg after the midfielder was stretchered off the pitch during Bafana Bafana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan on Tuesday.

Coach Hugo Broos’ charges beat the home side 3-2 at Juba National Stadium, but the win came at a cost as Sithole suffered the injury in the second half.

The Bafana Bafana medical department will determine the extent of the injury after the team returns to South Africa on Wednesday night.
