Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has praised the impact of attacking midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi following his impressive showing against Marumo Gallants.

Vilakazi played a crucial role in helping his side secure a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership opener at Free State Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

The 18-year-old came off the bench in the second half to score the winning goal as Amakhosi walked away with maximum points away from home.

Nabi has since showered the young midfielder with praise but admits that he will not start as yet to “protect” his player.

“I love Vilakazi; he’s like a son to me, but I have to protect him,” Nabi told his club’s official website.

“He’s not starting yet because I am protecting him from all the attention because he is a huge talent and he needs to understand that when you start for Kaizer Chiefs it takes a big sacrifice.

“So, I must protect my young talented players. I am very happy for him but I also want him to remain grounded and work even harder.
