Magesi FC coach Clinton Larsen has opened up about his game plan on how to deal with a star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns team.
Dikwena tša Meetse claimed their first-ever top-flight title after securing a 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Goals from Tshepo Kakora and Delano Abrahams cancelled out Iqraam Rayners’ opener as Magesi held on to lift the trophy at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Larsen was unhappy with the fact that his side conceded a goal but felt they deserved the victory against a formidable Sundowns outfit.
“We wanted to go to the break without conceding, one lapse of concentration, [Lehlohonolo] Mokone did not get tight on Rayners, the other efforts were outside the box, that’s exactly what we planned. It’s gonna take something special to beat Elvis from so far,” Larsen told SuperSport TV after the game.
“We had to change in the second-half and be on the front foot. People may ask ‘Why did you not do that in the first-half?’ Arrows tried it, they got five, SuperSport four.
“I think the plan worked, we gave away a soft goal but courageous comeback from the boys and I think based on the second-half performance well deserved [win].”
