Stellenbosch FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Stade Malien in their CAF Confederation Cup group stage opener at the Stade de 26 Mars on Wednesday evening.

The Malians outfit opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Haman Mandjan found the back of the net before Daouda Coulibaly netted an injury time penalty to hand Stade Malien the win.

The defeat leaves Stellies sitting at the bottom of Group B with zero points after one game, while Stade Malien are placed second in the group with three points after their first match.
