Toys R Us, ActivateHer, and Roc Nation Sports International recently joined forces to bring holiday cheer and sports empowerment to the young learners of Molo Mhlaba School in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
The special holiday initiative aimed to highlight the significance of play and sport in a child’s development.
The outreach featured a special morning filled with fun, games, and gift-sharing, hosted by the Toys R Us Cape Town store teams, as well as the surprise appearance of the iconic Toys R Us mascot, Geoffrey, who engaged with the children in various activities and presented each participant with a merit certificate for completing the Geoffrey Get Fit Challenge on the day.
“We believe that play and sport are essential for a child’s holistic development,” said Ronel Grant, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Toys R Us.
“By partnering with ActivateHer and Roc Nation Sports International, we were able to bring smiles to the faces of these special young people and empower them through the power of play.”
All three organisations share the same vision of using sports as a tool for social change and empowerment, and Adele Bruggeman, Founding Director at ActivateHer said it was “truly heartwarming to see the joy on the children’s faces”.
“This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration and the positive impact we can make on young lives,” Bruggeman added.
This sentiment was echoed by Mahlatse Mashua, the managing director of Roc Nation Sports International in South Africa.
“As a sports-loving nation, we know the power of play, and it was wonderful to share in a memorable morning with such an enthusiastic group of young children,” Mashua said.
“Their energy was so infectious, and it spoke volumes about the importance of embracing ‘ubuntu’ during this festive season.”
