Manchester United’s David De Gea remains unsure of whether or not he will be starting for Spain when the side launches its Euro 2016 defence in France. 

De Gea faces competition from Porto number one Iker Casillas, a long-time favourite of Spain coach Vicente del Bosque, reports ESPN.

The 35-year-old veteran is La Furia Roja’s most capped player having racked-up yet another appearance when he started in the side’s 6-1 victory over South Korea last week.

Del Bosque opted for De Gea when Spain faced Georgia at Coliseum Alfonso Perez in Getafe on Tuesday, but the preparation game did not go as planned, as the Georgians a shocked the Spaniards to claim a 1-0 victory.

Spain’s next game is their opener in the Euros against Czech Republic on Monday.

Speaking in the aftermath of the Georgia defeat, De Gea said: ‘We are a team, we are all here to help and nothing more.’

‘I always work hard to play the games, and I am ready [to start]. The boss makes the decisions. I am here to take advantage of any opportunities I get.’

De Gea is focused on doing his best and his happy to let his manager make all the big calls.

‘My feeling is that this is up to the boss and wait until Monday to see what he decides.

‘On the pitch I just think of doing my job well. Their goal was a bit our mistake, and a bit bad luck. But nothing else. There is no need to go into it too much.’

De Gea made 49 appearances for Manchester United this term, whilst the 25-year-old has represented Spain on eight occasions.
