Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has reportedly been handed a R50-million transfer budget ahead of the 2016-17 season.
Following Amakhosi’s announcement of the release of 20 players, Komphela has now been given the chance to freshen up the Chiefs squad after finishing last season without a trophy.
Amakhosi failed to secure any silverware, finishing fifth on the Absa Premiership table while suffering defeats in both MTN8 and Telkom Knockout finals.
The Soweto club have made R50 million available for the team to bring in fresh legs, according to a Phakaaathi source.
‘Steve can afford any player now. He has been given R50 million to work with, and that means if they are still interested, they may go full force on Sibusiso Vilakazi,’ said the source.
Amakhosi have long been linked with a move for Bidvest Wits playmaker Sibusiso Vilakazi and have already had a R6-million offer turned down by Wits.
However, with Komphela’s new budget investment, the Glamour Boys can make an improved offer for ‘Vila’ should they choose to make the Bafana Bafana international their number one priority ahead of the new season.
