Wales took on Russia in the sides’ final Group B clash on Monday as Gareth Bale proved pivotal to the decisive 3-0 Welsh victory. 

According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match centre, Russia had the best of the ball in the first period as they managed 58 percent of the possession. Wales, on the other hand, proved the much more incisive side as they managed 12 shots as opposed to Russia’s six.

Wales dominated the ball in the latter stages of the game as their possession climbed to 52 percent for the match, while the shot count read 19 for Wales compared to 12 efforts on goal for the Russians.

Gareth Bale proved instrumental in Wales’ play as he made 62 touches. The player completed 29 of his 33 passes, including a brilliant ball to set-up Wales’ second goal. Bale also won a stunning 10 of his 12 personal duels.

It was the Welshman’s pace, power, and ability to take players on that created the most danger for his side, as the Welshman was unlucky not to score on numerous occasions, before finally getting his goal on the 67 minute mark.

Bale was subbed off to a standing ovation after 83 minutes as Wales cruised to a 3-0 win.
