New Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has stated he will show no favouritism towards striker Lennox Bacela.

Bacela, who is training with City, is currently a free agent having not been retained by AmaTuks, who have just been relegated from the Premiership.

The 33-year-old striker is reportedly keen on securing a new deal in Cape Town, but Tinkler insists the pair’s former working relationship will have no impact on any deal.

‘He’s coming to training with us,’ Tinkler told KickOff. ‘We are having a look at him. I know him, I know him well. He will be assessed no different to the rest.’

Tinkler has stated Bacela is currently being given an opportunity to prove himself.

‘He must be the same or better than what we currently have. We’ve given him an opportunity to prove himself but just because I know him, there are no favours.’

City will need to make some serious additions to their squad given they have retained just 14 players from last season’s side.
