Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic admits his ‘dreams have come true’ after scoring on his debut for the Reds against Fleetwood Town on Wednesday.
Grujic had already displayed superb strength and technique to win a penalty that Danny Ings subsequently missed before he calmly slotted Alberto Moreno’s cutback home after good work from Sadio Mane, reports the Liverpool website.
The 20-year-old has expressed his delighted to have been given a starting berth by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.
‘The game was incredible,’ Grujic said.
‘I’m so proud of my team and my teammates to give me the chance to play for this club and in my first game, I scored – my dreams have come true and I feel very happy and proud.
‘When I came here I only wanted to be with these guys, these 20 players, and now the coach gave me the chance to play in the first XI and to score, and I’m so happy.’
Grujic went on to say that he is already feeling at home on Merseyside after spending time with fellow national teammates Markovic and Lovren.
‘Everything from the start has been perfect,’ he added.
‘The players are very friendly, I’m spending a bit of time with Lazar [Markovic] and Dejan [Lovren] – they have helped me so much, and I am so happy.’
The Red Star midfielder expects tougher pre-season friendlies ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
‘In the next games, we will try to get better and better. Then we will go to the USA and play against some of the best teams,’ Grrijic said.
‘Then we come back and play against Barcelona, which will be a good test for us and we will start the season ready.’
Liverpool will next take on Wigan Athletic for their third pre-season match on Sunday.
