Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is delighted by the performances of new Amakhosi duo Lewis Macha and Sibusiso Khumalo following the Carling Black Label Champion Cup.
Chiefs, who outplayed their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates to win 2-0 on Saturday, had new boy Lewis Macha to thank for one of his side’s goals while new defender Sibusiso Khumalo was also impressive.
‘For Macha, first goal, derby, first match. I am happy for him,’ Komphela told KickOff.
‘Tower’ [Mathoho] as well, beautiful goal. I thought at half-time we should go to the dressing room with one or two goals. The second-half as well, we had chances but we were kept in the game by the ‘keeper as well.’
Komphela also reserved praise for Khumalo, who was recently brought in to offer competition at left back as the former SuperSport United defender did not disappoint on debut.
‘First one we felt we know Tsepo [Masilela] and if we bring Sbu would you face a disaster? No.
‘Sbu is equally capable and the games we played throughout pre-season he was there, not much difference in terms on how we as Kaizer Chiefs want to play and how he plays,’ the coach concluded.
Chiefs will now put the finishing touches on their pre-season plans with the league getting underway on August 23. Reports suggest Komphela’s side will face a blockbuster opening fixture against last season’s runners-up Bidvest Wits.
