Cape Town City owner John Comitis has revealed that he did not hesitate to sign goalkeeper Samora Motloung when the opportunity arose.

The newly-formed PSL side officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Samora Motloung on a two-year deal with the option of extending his deal for one year.

Comitis has hailed the 21-year-old shot-stopper for his performance for Ajax Cape Town at U19 level before making a switch to Orlando Pirates.

‘Samora is a very special player. After having won U19 Copa Amsterdam goalkeeper of the Tournament a few years back and then subsequently not making the first team at Ajax CT, I was glad he finally managed to secure himself a contract at Orlando Pirates,’ Comitis said.

City club owner revealed that when he discovered that Mabogkwane will be the Buccaneers first choice goalkeeper, he jumped at the chance to sign Motloung from the Sea Robbers.

‘When Jackson Mabogkwane was favoured to be the number one keeper of Pirates, we didn’t hesitate to request Pirates to sell us Samora to bring him back to Cape Town, especially because he’s from Khayelitsha,’ he added.

Motloung has previously played for the likes of Cape United Soccer School of Excellence, Ajax, and Old Mutual academy before signing for Pirates last season.

‘He may feature in our starting line-up for our first home game, as Walters is suspended. For Samora it’s all here to play for, we are really excited to bring a home-grown Capetonian into the mix,’ the club owner said.

Cape Town City will make their PSL bow when they host Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium.

The match on August 23 will kick-off at 19:30.
