Mexican outfit Tigres have waved away rumours suggesting their striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is wanted by Barcelona.

Gignac, who was a surprise inclusion in France’s Euro 2016 squad, enjoyed a revival in form last season that has significantly raised his profile.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are eager to add to their striking options. The Catalan side currently boasts arguably one of the best forward lines in history with the likes of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, but do not have reliable backup players on hand in the event of injury.

Barcelona have been frustrated in their attempts to acquire a suitable backup forward thus far as the likes of Nolito, Luciano Vietto and Kevin Gameiro had all been put off by the competition at the club.

It had been alleged that Barca had now turned their attention to the likes of Gignac but Tigres have no denied such an approach took place.

‘Tigres are proud that a club of such international stature shows an interest in one of our players, but there has not been any formal contact regarding Barcelona’s interest in Gignac for now,’ the club announced on Twitter.

The 30-year-old Gignac hit 32 goals from 46 matches for Tigres last term as they claimed the Liga MX Apertura title.
