Bafana Bafana will face Egypt in the latest edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge to be held on September 6.

The match will be the third meeting between the sides in the contest with the last game having been won by the Pharaohs back in 2006.

The match against Egypt, who are currently ranked fifth on the continent, well help Bafana prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.

‘Egypt have always been tough customers and they will help us to prepare well because I said after the World Cup draw that if we don’t prepare well we will not go to Russia, so this match has come at an opportune time for us,’ head coach Shakes Mashaba told Safa.net.

Meanwhile, Safa president Danny Jordaan insists it is crucial the national side get as much practice as possible ahead of the crucial qualifiers.

‘For us, it was a no-brainer when we were presented with the prospect of playing against Egypt, we did not hesitate for two main reasons,’ he said.

Jordaan then explained the match not only helps the side prepare for Russia 2018 but also honours the legacy of former president Nelson Mandela, with all the proceeds of the game going to charity.

The match will take place at Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:00.
