Banyana Banyana forward Thembi Kgatlana has been called up to the Women’s Olympic squad to replace the injured Shiwe Nongwanya.
The 20-year-old was named as one of the four additional players on standby, who could be ready to step in into the official squad if there was an injury, reports Safa.net.
Kgatlana along with the likes of Kaylin Swart, Nomathemba Ntsibande, and Chantelle Esau has been training with Banyana Banyana in Brazil as per the tournament rules.
South Africa Women’s Olympic team made a formal request to replace Nongwaya with Kgatlana and it has been approved.
Nongwaya was ruled out of the Olympic Games after suffering an ankle injury during her side’s 1-0 defeat against Sweden in the 40th minute.
Banyana Banyana will now take on China tonight at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 00:00.
