Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi believes his side can only get better this campaign following their impressive start to the 2016-17 season.
The Chilli Boys have had a great start to their season, winning their opening game against Free State Stars and defeating Platinum Stars to proceed to the MTN8 semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
The victory was the first win in a cup game for Chippa, and even though Akpeyi missed the game he has been following the team’s progress during his time att the Olympics in Rio, reports the Chippa United website.
The 30-year-old says he is looking forward to returning to the squad and start training again.
‘I am happy to the back in Port Elizabeth and can’t wait to start training with my teammates again,’ Akpeyi said.
Akpeyi believes that the Chilli Boys first two wins for the season is proof that Dan Malesela side can only improve this season.
‘I watched the repeat of our game against Free State Stars and of course the quarter-final against Platinum Stars after arriving in Johannesburg on Friday afternoon,’ he added.
‘The progress was evident in our second game and I have no doubt that we can only get better from now on. We have the Technical Team and desire at the Club to do well this season.’
During his time in the Absa Premiership, Akpeyi has kept seven clean sheets from 27 appearances in all competitions for the Chilli Boys.
He has also played for the likes of Nigerian side’s Gabros International, Nasarawa United, FC Heartland, and Warri Wolves.
