Former Manchester City goalkeeper Nicky Weaver insists the club’s new shot-stopper Claudio Bravo is not in the same class as Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.

Weaver, although positive Bravo will improve after a shaky debut, insists the goalkeeper tends to make mistakes, which sees him fall short of Neuer’s standards.

‘There is going to be a circus around [Bravo] now in the media and teams coming up will have watched that game and be closing him down and forcing a mistake,’ Weaver explained, reports 888Sport.

‘He’s also going to get lots of jeers from opposing fans but he is vastly experienced so that won’t worry him,’ the 37-year-old added.

Bravo was at fault as he gifted Manchester United a lifeline in the sides’ Manchester Derby clash this past weekend, while a poor touch by the new signing almost compounded that error with only a desperate lunge denying Wayne Rooney a golden opportunity.

‘A lot of goalkeepers struggle with the Premier League when they first come. At corners, they will try and pen him in and put it under the crossbar.

‘Teams will try and exploit every weakness and City don’t have many so any little advantage will be taken,’ Weaver explained.

Weaver concluded by suggesting that although Bravo fell short of Neuer’s ability, he was nevertheless a desirable goalkeeper given his experience at Barcelona and his ability with his feet.

Bravo is likely to start in goals as Manchester City host Borussia Monchengladbach in Champions League action on Wednesday.
