Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Roberto Firmino is available to play in their EFL Cup tie against Derby County on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old was left out of the Reds squad for their Premier League victory over Chelsea on Friday due to a minor groin strain.
The German manager revealed that Firmino is back contention for the third-round tie at the iPro Stadium after successfully completing his recovery period.
‘We gave him yesterday and today again because the medical department told me that he could have played [on Friday],’ Klopp told the Liverpool website.
‘But I heard the word risk too often so I decided no. I’m very happy that it worked out.
‘They told me if we give him three days then everything will be perfect. Today is the fourth day. He has already had three, so he is in.’
Klopp also revealed that Mamadou Sakho is continuing to strengthen his condition after a long period out of action.
‘[He is] still working on [his fitness],’ he added.
‘Of course, he is closer, he is still working. But [being] match fit is a big difference. That’s all. It’s not about only making a few sessions.’
The match at iPro Stadium kicks off at 20:40.
