Former Barcelona turned Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes the Catalan club is the perfect environment for superstar Lionel Messi.
The Spanish midfielder also believes the side are the best fit for taking of the player in a physical sense, with the superstar having recently picked up a groin injury that will rule him out for three weeks of action.
‘Messi is the best in the world without any doubt,’ Fabregas told Cadena COPE. ‘I think the club are the only club in the world who can take care of Messi. They have done so in recent years.’
Fabregas and Messi were teammates at Barcelona for three seasons before the Spaniard quit the club to join the Blues in London. During that period between 2011 and 2014, Fabregas was often asked to play in the false nine position vacated by the superstar during periods of injury.
‘They have always taken care of him. It’s the best club for him,’ Fabregas added. ‘Today I have not spoken to Messi. Yesterday, I asked him how he was and he was well. It’s a pity, [but] he will recover soon,’ he concluded.
Messi suffered the groin problem as his side were frustrated 1-1 at home by Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine has been in excellent form so far this season as he has scored eight goals from eight games, assisting an additional five.
