Bidvest Wits star Thabang Monare has revealed that his first taste of success with the club has wet his appetite for more top flight glory.

Wits crushed Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 in the MTN8 final this past weekend to continue their unbeaten start to the season and Monare has now targeted glory in the next cup competition Wits are set to contest, the Telkom Knockout.

‘When you have not been up that podium and not gotten a medal after making the kind of contribution that makes you happy you will never understand,’ Monare told KickOff.

‘[Joining Wits] felt different and inspiring but then when we won the trophy this weekend I was like “wow, so this is what this is all about”‘ the midfielder explained.

The Telkom Knockout, which features each of the 16 sides in the Premiership, will see Wits take on Free State Stars in the opening round of the competition.

‘Now that I have had that taste of success I definitely want to keep on going back for more bites. Why the hell would I not want to keep going back for further bites when success tastes this good?

‘But then I am well aware that I have to keep my focus on the process that eventually gets one up there which is on working hard on your game through every day at training,’ the 27-year-old concluded.’

Wits have never won the Telkom Knockout trophy but did come close back in 2011 when they were losing finalists.
