Former Premier League star and Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has hailed the skill of the Bafana Bafana players ahead of the sides’ clash on Tuesday.
The striker admitted he had not had a chance to study the side in a while but was expecting a balanced contest in Durban, with Bafana and Ghana entering the tie off the back of World Cup qualifying draws.
‘South Africa is a good team and they’ve got skilful players but I haven’t watched them in a while,’ says Gyan told the media, reports KickOff.
‘But definitely South Africa is good. They played 1-1 away [against Burkina Faso] and I think it was a good result for them. But the friendly is going to be very, very interesting because we also got quality in our team so it’s going to be a balanced game.’
Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 48 goals, was part of the Ghana side that infamously succumbed to defeat in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup at the hands of Uruguay, with Gyan missing a crucial penalty.
‘Losing like that, it’s been haunting me once in a while. It has made me a strong man and life goes on. But me coming to South Africa it’s just coming here to do what I do best and go,’ he concluded.
The friendly will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Kick-off is at 19:00.
