Kamohelo Mokotjo and Lebogang Phiri played instrumental roles for their sides as the pair impressed among South African stars in Europe this past week.

Phiri continued in his crucial defensive role at the heart of his Danish side Brondy’s midfield, putting in a strong performance as the side earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aarhus. The star played the full 90 minutes of the contest.

Over in the Netherlands, Twente had Mokotjo to thank for a similarly resolute display as the side notched a 2-0 away victory over Go Ahead Eagles. Mokotjo played every minute of the match in his customary deep midfield role.

May Mahlangu, meanwhile, was the biggest winner of all this past week as his Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest crushed Panduril 4-0 in a resounding victory. The midfielder had little presence in the contest, however, coming on as a late substitute.

Andile Jali and his Oostende side had to contend with a draw for their weekend’s work as the Belgian outfit was held 2-2 by Kortrijk. Jali played just over an hour of the contest before being substituted off in the 68th minute. Meanwhile, things did not go the way of Ayanda Patosi and his Lokeren side, as they went down 2-0 to  Zulte-Waregem with Patosi being hauled off with 25 minutes to play.

There was also just a point to be had for Bradley Ralani’s Swedish side Helsingborg as the relegation-threatened outfit kept a clean sheet but failed to deliver offensively.

There was disappointment for Tokelo Rantie over in Turkey as the star earned a start for his Genclerbirligi side, but was then replaced at half-time.

Finally, there was more misery for Steven Pienaar and Sunderland as the former Bafana Bafana captain lasted 80 minutes of yet another Premier League defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham United.
