Ajax Cape Towns welcomed Bidvest Wits to Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday, with the visitors coming from behind to claim all three points.

The match got off to a laboured start as both sides failed to keep hold of possession to good effect, often preferring to lob the ball forward in hopeful fashion while they sought to get into gear.

Chances proved hard to come by for either side over the following period of play before Ajax broke the deadlock in stunning fashion in the 25th minute. The goal was scored by Erick Chipeta, who struck a marvelous free kick into the top corner.

Wits looked to bounced back from the setback straight away as Daine Klate had a dangerous-looking cross blocked before Eleazar Rodgers was denied shortly after the half-hour mark following a quick swivel and shot.

Wits were unfortunate to remain a goal behind in the contest after Gabadinho Mhango was incorrectly adjudged offside, Ben Motshwari. Despite having the better of the chances, it was Wits who trailed at the interval.

The second half began with renewed pressure from the Clever Boys as Ajax scrambled to defend their lead. Mhango has the first chance of the half after 50 minutes but misfired his a shot after a superb run.

The Urban Warriors almost scored a shock second in the 64th minute as Darren Keet reacted quickly to deny Prince Nxumalo. Just four minutes later, Wits finally got their equaliser through Rodgers, who was awake to a round and duly finished off the chance.

Wits continued to dominate possession as the game steadily wound down before Nxumalo almost capitalised on some defensive confusion.

With just minutes remaining in the tie, Mogakolodi Ngele struck a decisive effort for Wits, completing the comeback as they secured another vital victory.
