Germany and Italy were forced to play out an entertaining goalless draw in their friendly international at the San Siro in Milan on Tuesday.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon earned his 167th cap in this game, equalling the European record of Spain shot-stopper Iker Casillas. The hosts dominated the encounter, but Germany also had their fair share of opportunities in the final third.

The Blues started better and came close to breaking the deadlock with a quick break but Eder misconnected, leaving Bernd Leno to pick up the loose ball in the area.

The Germans counter-attacked and Ilkay Gundogan sent Leon Goretzka through, but Buffon reacted quickly to keep the scores level at 0-0.

Italy forward Ciro Immobile was set on scoring when he beat the offside trap to fire the ball past Leno, only for his effort to sail narrowly wide.

The Blues’ best opportunity came eight minutes from the end with Andrea Belotti hitting the post with a low shot.
