Real Madrid have confirmed that Gareth Bale sustained ankle tendon damage during their Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.
The winger was forced off the field just before the hour mark at the Estadio Jose Alvalade after apparently twisting his ankle.
The Real Madrid Sanitas Medical Services have decided that the 27-year-old will undergo an operation following the traumatic dislocation of the peroneal tendons of his right ankle.
The operation will take place at King Edward VII Hospital in London on 29 November by Dr James Calder, under the supervision of club doctors Jesús Olmo and Mikel Aramberri, according to the Real Madrid website.
The European champions will be hoping the forward recovers in time for their El Clasico clash with Barcelona at the Nou Camp in just 10 days.
