Polokwane City returned to winning ways after defeating Platinum Stars 3-2 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Rise and Shine got off to a bright start in the early exchanges of the match and went ahead as early as the 12th minute when Sipho Jembula guided his left-footed effort into the back of the net from outside the box.

City thought they doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Rodney Ramagalela had the ball into the back of the net before he was flagged offside.

Dikwena’s first real chance of the match came in the 25th minute when Ndumiso Mabena effort at goal flew narrowly wide of the crossbar.

On the stroke of half time, Dikwena were dealt a major blow when Solomon Mathe put the ball into his own net to double Rise and Shine’s lead in the match.

After the first 45 minutes of play, Polokwane City when into the half time interval with a 2-0 lead over Dikwena after dominating the first half of the match.

Ramagalela then made it 3-0 to Polokwane in the 52nd minute when he beat his marker before putting the ball past Dikwena goalkeeper Steven Hoffman.

However, Dikwena managed to pull a goal back to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute when Benson Shilongo guided his effort into the bottom corner.

Stars then reduced the deficit to a goal a few minutes later when Shilongo rose well to head the ball past City goalkeeper George Chigova to make it 3-2.

Rise and Shine managed to hold on to their 3-2 lead until the final whistle to collect all three points and return to winning ways.
