SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter admits that Erick Tinkler deserved to win the Telkom Knockout Cup following their 2-1 defeat at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Matsatsantsa fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cape Town City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to end their knockout tournament as runners-up.
The 63-year-old believe the defeat against City will give his side motivation to improve their performance but at the same time credited Eric Tinkler, declaring that he deserved to win the cup.
‘Congratulations to Eric [Tinkler] and his boys. Eric has worked very hard, he’s worked very hard and he deserves one,’ Baxter said after the match.
‘We’re losers today and second is really nothing, though, is it? But we’ll take it and we’ll take all the pain that goes with it and maybe that will motivate us to keep playing.’
SuperSport will be out to get revenge on Cape Town City when the two side’s meet in the Absa Premiership on Friday.
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
