Chippa United cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Highlands Park while Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United played out to a goalless draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
The Chilli Boys got off to a bright start and came close to breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute when Thamsanqa Sangweni’s curling free-kick could only find the crossbar.
However, Dan Malesela’s side opened the scoring in the 25th minute when a free-kick from Katlego Mashego deflected off of Surprise Moriri before it was guided into the far corner.
Highlands Park goalkeeper Kapini came to his side’s rescue in the 30th minute when he produced a fine save to deny Mashego from a free-kick.
Gordon Igesund’s side failed to create any real chances in the final third as the match went into the half-time interval, with a 1-0 lead in favour of Chippa.
However, Mashumba came close to finding an equalising goal for the Lions of the North in the 70th minute when he was picked out Eddie Ngalo, who headed wide of the target from close range.
Meanwhile, at the other end, the Chilli Boys doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Paseko Mako set up Lerato Manzini to put the ball into the back of the net from six-yards out to make it 2-0.
The Chilli Boys managed to see off Highlands Park as they held on to their 2-0 victory and collect all three points in the Absa Premiership as they returned to winning ways.
Meanwhile, Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United were forced to share the spoils at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium after they played out to a goalless draw in the Absa Premiership.
