A goal by Giorginio Wijnaldum inspired Liverpool to a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The Reds look a bit shaky at the back in the opening exchanges of the match while Pep Guardiola’s side got off to a good start and saw more possession of the ball as the match went on.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Adam Lallana’s cross found Wijnaldum, who’s leaping header made its way into the back of the net to make it 1-0 in favour of Liverpool.
In the 20th minute, James Milner sent a cross into the Man City box but it was headed away before Raheem Sterling tried to get Sergio Aguero through on goal over the top but Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet raced off his line to clear the ball away for safety.
Milner played a brilliant ball over the top of the Man City defence into the path of Roberto Firmino but the Brazilian couldn’t quite get it under control before City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo raced off his line to gather the ball.
City saw most of the ball in the as the half went on but failed to carve out clear-cut any clear-cut chances at goal as the Reds were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure from City.
In the first 45 minutes, the scoreline remained 1-0 in favour of Liverpool as they went into the half-time interval.
However, Liverpool suffered a major blow after the hour mark when captain Jordan Henderson had to be substituted after picking up an injury during the match.
The visiting side continued to dominate processings in the second half with former Liverpool forward Sterling seeing a lot of the ball as he went in search of an equalising goal.
However, City could no break down the Reds defence during the final stages of the match as the Reds walked away with all three points.
