Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech believes that French striker Olivier Giroud’s stunning goal against Crystal Palace could be a strong contender for the goal of the season.
The France international opened the scoring for the Gunners with a stunning scorpion kick before Alex Iwobi all but sealed the victory in the 56th minute as Arsene Wenger’s side walked away with all three points.
The 34-year-old admits the Frenchmen’s goal came at a crucial time in the match and he believes it’s a serious contender for goal of the season.
‘First, it’s a very important goal because we needed to break them down and we needed to score,’ Cech told Arsenal Player.
‘When you score a goal of the year on the first day of the year, you put the bar really high,’
Arsenal are set to face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Tuesday.
