A brace by Dele Alli was enough for Tottenham Hotspur to secure a 2-0 victory over Premier League leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday evening.
The match got off to a good start with both sides showing their attacking intent going forward in the opening exchanges of the match.
However, Spurs came close to breaking the deadlock in the 23rd minute when N’Golo Kante’s pass found Christian Eriksen, who’s curling effort went inches wide of the target from 20-yards out.
In the 38th minute, Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois came to his side’s rescue when he denied fellow countrymen Jan Vertonghen’s headed effort from close-range.
However, Spurs eventually took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Dele Alli was left unmark to head home from close range after latching on to a cross from Eriksen.
Alli then completed his brace and scored Spurs’ second goal of the match in the 53rd minute when he headed home a cross from Eriksen to make it 2-0.
The Blues pressed forward in search of a goal but failed to break down the Lillywhites defence as their 13-matches unbeaten run came to an end, with Spurs walking away with all three points at White Hart Lane.
