Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that coach Pitso Mosimane has extended his contract for a further four years.

The 52-year-old was recently named as the Caf African Coach of the Year after leading the Brazilians to the 2015-16 Absa Premiership title and guiding the club to their first ever Caf Champions League title.

Motsepe has now confirmed that the former Bafana Bafana coach has extended his stay at the club and has insisted that he wants Mosimane to stay at the club for the long term.

‘I’d like Pitso to be the Alex Ferguson or the Arsene Wenger of Sundowns,’ Motsepe said.

The Sundowns supremo did, however, indicate that he would not stand in Mosimane’s way should he receive a good offer from a European club or another one from the national team.

The club’s chairman has revealed that he would release Mosimane if he receives an offered to coach Bafana Bafana again.

‘I would love to see Pitso coaching one of the top European clubs,’ Motsepe added.

‘I would also do my patriotic duty and release him if requested by Bafana Bafana to do so and with Pitso’s consent.

‘If Bafana wants Pitso, we will release him. But of course, Pitso must agree. We’ve always put South African interests first.’

When they Absa Premiership returns, Mamelodi Sundowns will next take on Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on February 8.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
