Egypt finish top in Group D following their 1-0 victory over Ghana while Uganda and Mali played out to a 1-1 draw in the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
The Pharaohs started the match off the better side and they came close to finding the back of the net when Mohamed Elneny’s long-range effort went narrowly wide of the crossbar.
However, Egypt opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Mohamed Salah curled his free-kick into the top corner to give his side a 1-0 lead.
At the other end, Ghana came close to levelling matters when Christian Atsu latched onto a cross from Harrison Afful but his headed effort went wide of the target.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars were dealt a major blow just before the half-time interval when Asamoah Gyan went down injured and had to be replaced by Jordan Ayew.
Ghana pushed forward in search of an equalising goal and Atsu’s cross into the box was met by a Daniel Amartey header but he sent his effort wide of the target from inside the six-yard area.
However, Ghana came close to levelling matters Ayew sent a cross towards John Boye but his effort was guided just over the crossbar.
The Black Stars again came close to finding an equalising goal when Emmanuel Badu’s strike at goal from outside the box was well saved by Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary.
However, the Pharaohs will now finish at the top of Group D, while the Black Stars will finish as runners-up of the group.
Meanwhile, Uganda and Mali were forced to share the spoils after playing out to a 1-1 draw in their final Group D encounter.
