Chelsea and Liverpool were forced to share the spoils at Anfield after playing out to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
The Reds dominated proceeding during the opening exchanges of the match but were forced to take their chances from distance in the opening 20 minutes of the match.
However, the Blues then broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when David Luiz put the ball into the back of the net from a took a quick free-kick to give his side a 1-0 lead over Liverpool.
Meanwhile, the home side continued to dominate possession of the ball in the first half but failed to carve out any clear-cut chances in the final third.
The Reds eventually leveled matters 10 minutes into the second half when Georginio Wijnaldum headed the ball into the back of the net from a James Milner’s knock-back to make it 1-1.
However, Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute when Joel Matip brought down Diego Costa. Costa stepped up to take the penalty but had his spot-kick saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Both sides pressed forward in search of the winning goal in the closing stages, with Chelsea coming close to finding the back of the net when Pedro had his shot saved in the 89th minute.
Neither side could find the winning goal as Chelsea extended their lead to nine points at the summit of the Premier League table as both sides shared the spoils at Anfield.
