Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola says he will pray for Gabriel Jesus after he picked up an injury during their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Monday.
The 19-year-old had scored three goals in his first four City appearances, appeared to twist his ankle in the first half of the match at the Vitality Stadium before being replaced by Sergio Aguero.
Guardiola says he is hoping Gabriel’s injury isn’t serious and he has revealed that the Brazilian will be assessed by City’s medical team on Tuesday.
‘Tomorrow morning we will know exactly [the extent of the injury]. Hopefully – I will pray tonight – it will not be a big issue,’ Guardiola told the Manchester City website.
City’s win moved them up to second in the table and cut Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points.
The 46-year-old manager says he was pleased with his side’s performance after collecting all three points but he admits that the Cherries gave them a run for their money.
‘I was especially pleased with the performance, that’s why we got the result. We could have scored more goals so we played a good game in one of the toughest games away,’ He added.
‘I know how tough Bournemouth are. Except 10 minutes in the second half when they pushed a lot, we controlled it and our build up is much, much better.
‘Every player is more in the position and I’m so happy for all the players because they played a really good performance.’
Manchester City will now turn their attention to the FA Cup when they take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 17:00.
