Bidvest Wits have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Chris Ejike Uzoenyi on a short-term contract until the end of the 2016-17 season.
The Clever Boys have the options of extending the Nigerian striker’s stay at the club providing he proves himself worth this season.
Gavin Hunt’s side are currently placed fourth in the Absa Premiership standings with 28 points and have managed to claim eight victories out of 14 matches played so far this season.
‘We are pleased to welcome Chris Uzoenyi to the family. Good luck as you add strength to our attacking force. #NewSigning #WhiteAndBlueArmy,’ Wits announced on their official Twitter site.
‘We wish him a hugely successful time with the Clever Boys.’
Over the course of his career in the Absa Premiership, Uzoenyi could only manage to make eight appearances in all competitions while on loan at Mamelodi Sundowns from Enugu Rangers IFC during the 2014-15 season.
He has also played for the like of Nigerian sides Enyimba Aba, Enugu Rangers IFC, FC and French side Stade Rennes B before spending time on loan at Mamelodi Sundowns.
On an international level, he has managed to score three goals and made a total of 22 appearances in all competitions since making his debut for the Nigerian national team back in January 2012 under the guidance of then head coach Stephen Keshi.
The 24-year-old has now become the Students second signing for the second half of the Absa Premiership season after securing the services of former Slovan Bratislava midfielder Granwald Scott during the January transfer window.
Bidvest Wits will now go head-to-head with Orlando Pirates when the two sides lock horns in their mouth-watering Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
