A late goal by Sean Raggett helped Lincoln City claim a narrow 1-0 victory over Burnley to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides struggled to find their rhythm in the opening minutes of the match. Lincoln should’ve taken the lead in the fifth minute when Arnold sent a pass across the face of goal for Muldoon, but he lost his composure before firing over the bar.
Burnley had their first chance of the match in the 18th minute when Vokes won the ball before lining up a half-volley and then hammering his effort well over the bar from a resulting corner.
In the 22nd minute, Arfield swung a corner in from the left flank which Keane attacked from the near post, but he could only head his effort wide of the target.
Burnley had a chance to take the lead in the 38th minute when Darikwa sent a decent cross into the area, which was cleared to the edge of the box. Barton was on hand to hit a first-time, but he blazed his strike straight at Farman.
Neither side could open the scoring in the opening 45 minutes as the match went into the half-time interval goalless.
In the second half, Burnley pressed forward in the hopes of breaking the deadlock when Gray latched on to a free-kick from Barton, but he poked his effort wide of the post.
Lincoln had a chance to open the scoring when Wood sent a dangerous cross into the box with Rhead and Darikwa contesting for the ball at the back post, forcing the Burnley man to concede a corner.
Burnley had another chance to take the lead when Darikwa did brilliantly down the flank to create a clear-cut opening for Gray, but the striker missed the ball. Boyd and Westwood both tried to recover the situation, but Farman raced off to make the block before the Imps cleared the ball away to safety.
Three minutes later, Arfield whipped a cross into the box from the resulting corner and Keane rose well to head his effort at goal, but he guided his header narrowly over the bar.
Burnley started to pick up the pace with two chances at goal in the space of a minute when Gray had two attempts at goal, but the striker blazed both his efforts over bar.
However, the non-league side finally took the lead in the 88th minute when Raggett powered his header through the arms of Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton and into the net as he booked his side’s spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
